Zara and Mike Tindall’s Annual Australian Retreat: A Tradition of Sun, Style, and Equestrian Passion

For the past 13 years, Zara and Mike Tindall have made Australia their regular refuge at the start of January. Considered their 'home away from home', this annual visit is steeped in nostalgia and fondness. The couple first crossed paths in Australia 21 years ago, marking the country as a significant landmark in their lives. Their visits offer a warm escape from the cold winters, allowing them to bask in Australia's heat and enjoy its inviting water temperatures. The Gold Coast, in particular, holds a special place in their hearts, serving as their favorite destination.

Zara and Mike Tindall's love for Australia goes beyond the climate. They participate in the vibrant Magic Millions equestrian and auction event on the Gold Coast, which has become a cherished tradition for them. The event provides an exhilarating mix of equine celebration and stylish gatherings by the beach, resonating with the Tindalls' passion for horses. This year, Zara joined a relaxed beach horse race with other ambassadors, while Mike embraced his love for karaoke by participating in a competition during Magic Millions Gold.

"We love coming out of the cold winter and into the warm heat, and the incredible water temperatures," said Zara.

Their annual sojourn to Australia also allows Zara to showcase her fashion sense, earning accolades from critics. She has been seen modeling dresses from renowned designers such as Rebecca Vallance and Leo Lin. Zara herself appreciates the opportunity to swap winter coats for vibrant summer attire, embracing the lively colors and playful styles that Australia inspires.

"It is so nice to peel off the winter coats and step out in the great summer fashion in Australia – even just for a short time! The styles are always fun and plenty of colour which just inspires a good time," remarked Zara.

The Magic Millions carnival is more than just a festive gathering; it's an essential start to the year for the Tindalls. It's a time spent with like-minded horse enthusiasts, celebrating all things equine amidst the picturesque beach backdrop. This tradition has deeply ingrained itself in their lives, offering a unique blend of leisure and passion.

"We have always loved Australia and it is like a home from home for us. We have been coming to Queensland for so long now it has become a tradition for the start of the year – and although the Magic Millions carnival is busy with so much going on, being by the beach, with like-minded horse enthusiasts celebrating all things equine – we couldn't ask for a better way to start the year," shared Zara.

Their children, Mia, Lena, and Lucas, also relish these annual trips. The region offers them not just an escape from routine but also opportunities for shopping and retail therapy that add to their enjoyment of the vibrant locale.

Beyond their personal pleasures, Zara's participation in events like the exhibition beach gallop demonstrates her equestrian expertise, captivating thousands of onlookers along Surfers' Paradise Beach. Meanwhile, Mike's enthusiasm remains evident as he supports from the sidelines, enjoying his role as an avid cheerleader rather than a participant.

"Riding down the iconic Surfers' Paradise Beach in front of thousands of onlookers looks easy and impressive when the likes of Zara and Nacho jump on board their horses for the exhibition beach gallop on the morning of the Barrier Draw – they are effortless and expert and it is incredible watching them ride," said an observer.
