Zara and Mike Tindall Embrace Family Traditions Down Under

Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall were recently spotted enjoying their time in Australia, where they celebrated the Magic Millions carnival in Queensland. The couple now reside at Aston Farm on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. They are beginning to establish a tradition of ringing in the New Year all the way in Australia—home to their “home from home,” as they refer to it with fondness.

The Tindalls have three children: Mia, born in 2014, Lena, born in 2018, and Lucas, born in 2021. Today, Mia and Lena are already racking up tries on their local rugby pitches. Rugby is an important sport that unifies their family. Former England rugby player Mike Tindall is a member of his country’s World Cup-winning team in 2003. He retired from professional rugby in 2014, but he continues to be an avid advocate for the sport.

Zara and Mike with Nicole Slater, wife of Maroons coach Billy Slater, on their recent trip to Queensland. They cheered as one through the nail-biting 2025 SSO decider. The pair were both deeply appreciative and supportive as Queensland went on to record a stunning 24-12 upset victory against New South Wales. This most recent event is a testament to the Tindalls’ growing ties to Australia and their investment in the local sports culture.

Equestrian royalty Zara Tindall has long been a fan of Australia – and made no secret of it. She recentered the discussion on why she loves this country, elaborating,

“We have always loved Australia and it is like a home from home for us. We have been coming to Queensland for so long now it has become a tradition for the start of the year – and although the Magic Millions carnival is busy with so much going on, being by the beach, with like-minded horse enthusiasts celebrating all things equine – we couldn’t ask for a better way to start the year.”

While Zara and Mike have very close ties to Australia. They’re fixtures at Wimbledon, too, where Zara made a splash last month for her unexpected decision to wear … lace-up heels. Deared’s and Carr’s dedication to family and athletics shines through even after rugby, as each of them has been able to support their children’s continued athletic careers.

The Tindalls’ lifestyle is all skewed toward that perfect pinch of sporting fervor and family-firstism. They take annual excursions down-under to visit friends and other equestrian-minded individuals. These adventures have the added benefit of encouraging their kids’ passions for athletics.

“We love Sydney and have loads of friends there, so it’s been an important city in our lives. Everyone keeps telling us we’re moving there but we’re not. It’s so far away, especially when you have a big family.”

The Tindalls’ lifestyle reflects a blend of sporting enthusiasm and family values. Their annual trips to Australia allow them to connect with friends and fellow equestrian enthusiasts while nurturing their children’s interests in sports.
