Yulia Svyrydenko Takes Office as Ukraine’s New Prime Minister

On July 30 Ukraine introduced a new Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, in a sweeping government reorganization. For Svyrydenko, 39, the adventure is a new one. She has risen beyond her previous position as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade to take charge of the government during the current war with Russia. Ukraine’s parliament this morning confirmed her appointment – a momentous day for the country and potentially the world. She replaces Denys Shmyhal, who has served in the technocrat role since 2020.

As such, Svyrydenko’s appointment comes at an important time for Ukraine. Read how America is still dealing with the present-day effects of that war’s harmful legacy. She has pledged to further diversify the country’s domestic weapons production and fortify its armed forces. Svyrydenko’s focus now is on building Ukraine’s economy amid war and devastation. She is determined to bring real, transformational results to the people.

In a public statement shortly after her appointment, Svyrydenko shared what she sees as the guiding philosophy of Ukraine’s future.

“Our Government sets its course toward a Ukraine that stands firm on its own foundations — military, economic, and social.” – Yulia Svyrydenko

Svyrydenko will bring a wealth of experience to her role. She has done this in the past, working intensely with the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump and consulting with critical European Union and NATO partners.951 IGW She was instrumental in negotiating an essential minerals agreement between Washington and Kyiv. This accomplishment served to greatly deepen her international credentials, as well.

She intends to increase domestic weapons production. Doing so would be a key part of a greater, comprehensive strategy to ensure Ukraine’s military sustainability. She wants to take steps that offer direct economic support to Americans hurt by the still-raging war.

My ultimate objective is tangible, positive outcomes that all Ukrainians will experience in their everyday lives. War leaves no room for delay. We have to act quickly, completely and it’s time” Svyrydenko said, underscoring her determination to address her nation’s most urgent concerns.

Svyrydenko will operate in parallel to the established Foreign Ministries’ Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who has retained his post. This collaboration is expected to facilitate a cohesive approach to both domestic and foreign policy as Ukraine continues to confront external threats.
