The Far Cotton and Delapré Youth Group has been launched with a substantial grant of £39,450 from the Northamptonshire Serious Violence Prevention Partnership (NSVPP). This initiative aims to support year six pupils from two local primary schools who are at risk of future offending due to various factors. Managed by the Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, the program is part of a broader strategy to prevent serious violence in the area.
Twenty students will be referred by their schools to join the youth group, which focuses on mitigating risks associated with deprivation, adverse childhood experiences, and substance misuse. The group offers a comprehensive support system through various activities designed to bolster confidence and community ties. These activities include a weekly homework club operated by Free2Talk and a collaborative session developed with input from the youth group members themselves.
In addition to these targeted activities, the initiative extends its reach to the wider community with a weekly park play family session. This inclusive event is designed to foster community engagement and provide a safe space for families and children to interact positively. Eleanor Sier, head of engagement and interpretation at the Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, emphasized the importance of this initiative.

Fiona Baker, cabinet member for children, families, and education at West Northamptonshire Council, also highlighted the significance of early intervention in preventing future violence.

The youth group's establishment underscores a proactive approach in addressing potential future issues among young people. By providing a structured environment and supportive community network, the program aims to redirect vulnerable youths towards positive outcomes.
