Vaibhav Suryavanshi recently hit the news… He is still the youngest player to ever debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at age 14. The talented cricketer left everyone spellbound in his debut match. Signed by Rajasthan Royals for 11 million Indian rupees ($128,750) at only 13, he blasted a six off his very first ball even then, proving just how prodigiously talented this big hitting batting all-rounder is.
Suryavanshi’s path to this extraordinary milestone has included an Indie film resume to match. His influence in local cricket was by all accounts, enormous. He hit a stunning triple-century in a competition played in his native Bihar. His newfound talent got him onto India’s Under-19 national team. There, he dazzled the cricketing world, slamming a breathtaking 58-ball century against Australia. He accomplished that feat at the age of only 12 years in the prestigious Ranji Trophy red-ball tournament. This monumental feat solidified him even more as genius.
With his first IPL-run, Suryavanshi announced his arrival by tonking Shardul Thakur over extra cover for four. He ended up accosting the crowd for two more sixes to end up with a mind-numbing 34 runs off a mere 20 balls. He did, though, create a valuable first wicket bond of 85 with Yashasvi Jaiswal before getting out. Though Suryavanshi had an impressive outing, Rajasthan Royals lost the match on the last ball, by two runs.
Sairaj Bahutule, the Royals’ coach, talked about the importance of providing Suryavanshi with an opportunity to express himself in the game. He complimented Suryavanshi’s solid prep work coming into the game. Bahutule praised Suryavanshi’s aggressive batting style, saying, “It was essential to give him a chance. He trained really well and batted really well in the nets. His preparation was great. Second, he admitted that they lacked the presence of Sanju. This absence created an opportunity for Vaibhav, which he seized with both hands. He batted beautifully.”
Suryavanshi’s style of play is enough to get anyone excited. Shane Watson’s term for that is “almost 360 degrees,” which highlights his astounding all-around athleticism on the diamond. The young athlete who looks up to West Indian cricket legend Brian Lara gets more motivated by his ambitions toward the game.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently creating record after record and storming his way through the cricketing pitch. Fans and analysts alike are going to be thrilled to watch the trajectory of his career over these next few years.
