Born in 2021, Lucas Tindall is the third child — and young son — of Zara and Mike Tindall. As the grandson of the sovereign’s only daughter, Princess Anne, Lucas is in a privileged and rare position among members of the British royal family. He was born on the family’s Gatcombe Park estate. This quickly turned his entrance into the world into an epic journey compared to that of his two older sisters, Mia and Lena, who were both born in hospitals. Currently 25th in line to the throne, Lucas brings even more royal traditions to his family’s deep royal background.
Lucas’s personalized birth announcement was one of a kind. His father, Mike Tindall, announced the news—unlike his daughters’ announcements—which was made on the podcast “The Good, The Bad & The Rugby”. Speaking about the day of Lucas's birth, Mike shared, "Sunday got even better because a little baby boy arrived at my house." He further elaborated on the unexpected home birth, stating, "Fortunately the midwife who was going to meet us at the hospital wasn't that far away so she drove up just as we had assumed the posit and the second midwife arrived just after the head had arrived."
Lucas’s arrival would prove significant to his second cousin August Brooksbank, as the two boys were born just six weeks apart. This incredible timing led to a joint celebration with Zara’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband Jack Brooksbank. Lucas and August, the royal cousins, have a unique and touching bond. They are just as excited to be entering school together this coming September.
Lucas has already made a public appearance at the Cheltenham racecourse in January, where he was seen with his parents and sisters. His family were there to cheer his mother, Zara Tindall, who is a racecourse director and fierce equestrian competitor. Zara went on to jump her horses, Showtime and Class Affair, in the premier three-day Cheltenham Festival. Her reemergence to the competition was an important moment after the birth of Lucas.
Though cheering for his mom during her competitions, Lucas’s presence brought a special spark of contagious childish exuberance to the event. His warm magician’s charm disarmed everybody in the room. This did a lot to institutionalize his position as the new young, hip, and happening member of the royal family.
