York Schools Receive Government Grant to Expand Breakfast Clubs

The government recently announced £51,000 funding to three primary schools in York. This major funding will expand their breakfast and after-school club provisions. The purpose of this nearly $800,000 grant is to help address the increased demand for childcare services. This demand will outpace supply in the years ahead.

Clifton Green Primary School is leading on this exciting project with a considerable £30,000 grant award. This funding will enable the school to provide 35 additional spaces through their breakfast and after-school clubs. This expansion allows us to better serve the growing families in our community. It provides working parents the confidence that their children are receiving the safe, quality care and enriching educational support they need after school and over the summer.

We have been very fortunate to have benefitted with this funding. It was awarded £15,000 to create 25 new places in its breakfast and after-school clubs. The school community anticipates that this grant will significantly enhance its ability to serve local families, especially those who may require flexible childcare options.

Thorganby Primary School recently received £6,000! This funding will allow the school to add eight more places as breakfast and after-school clubs. This funding will allow the school to more effectively meet the needs of its students and their families.

The UK government’s 2023-24 Childcare Capital Expansion grant fund has provided a total of £333,600. From this, £51,000 will go directly towards building physical capacity in schools across the region. The funding pre-application period opened in October of last year and closed in December. This timeline provided schools with an unprecedented 13 months to submit their applications.

The Adopted Budget reflects the state government’s understanding of the urgent demand for increased childcare availability in York, and we are very grateful for this funding. These first awarded grants will enhance schools to increase their climate resilience. Furthermore, these dollars will improve the safety and quality of care children receive during these important hours.
