Williams Farms Repack Issues Tomato Recall Over Salmonella Concerns

Williams Farms Repack LLC of Fort Valley, VA is recalling more than 30,000 pounds of fresh, whole tomatoes that may have been contaminated with salmonella. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has since raised the recall to a Class I recall. This recall affects a variety of products ranging from prepared salads, sandwiches, and wraps sold in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This recall follows a November Consumer Product Safety Commission alert that warned of the same hazard, highlighting the severity of this epidemic.

The recalled items have “4×5 2 layer,” “60ct 2-layer,” and tray packs of three-count Williams Farms Repack label tomatoes. It also affects some of H&C Farms Label tomatoes sold in “5×6” and “6×6” 25 pound boxes. These products were handed out from April 23 to April 28, alarming consumers and health leaders across the country.

Williams Farms Repack LLC issued the recall via the FDA’s website. Other than general categories, they didn’t provide specific information on all of the products that were affected. The announcement included a link to an interactive map with a complete list of recalled products. You can read it in full at FDA Recall Announcement.

“As of April 30, 2025, Southeast Tomato Distributors advised the company that their seed was possibly contaminated. “On April 29, 2025, the firm was notified via telephone by Southeast Tomato Distributors that tomatoes supplied from H&C Farms may be contaminated with Salmonella,” stated Williams Farms Repack LLC.

Health officials are reminding the public that salmonella can pose severe health risks. The FDA defines a Class I recall as one involving “serious adverse health consequences or death.” Protect yourself to ensure your safety, examine your home for any defective items. Do your best to avoid using them if you do spot them!

Despite the severity of the recall, Williams Farms Repack LLC has noted that “no illnesses have been reported to date.” These provisions are a bright spot within the larger landscape of troubling food safety news.
