Wildfires Displace Families as Community Comes Together in Los Angeles

In the wake of devastating wildfires that ravaged the Altadena section of Los Angeles County, families are coming together to support one another during this challenging time. The fires have destroyed numerous homes and neighborhoods, leading to widespread evacuations. Among those affected are musician Griffin Goldsmith and actress Mandy Moore, both of whom were forced to leave their residences due to the fires.

Goldsmith, known for his work with the band Dawes, experienced significant losses as his home, along with much of his family's property, was destroyed. He and his family, which includes his wife and children, had to evacuate their home amidst the chaos. In a poignant statement, Goldsmith expressed the emotional toll of the disaster, saying, "The thing we mourn the most is the loss of the community."

While Mandy Moore's home was not completely destroyed, it remains unlivable. She shared her feelings of "weird survivors guilt" upon learning that her residence was mostly intact compared to others in the area. Thankfully, Moore's family, which includes her three young children—August "Gus" Harrison, 3; Oscar "Ozzie" Bennett, 2; and 3-month-old Louise Everett—are safe and accounted for. Moore expressed her gratitude for the kindness of friends who provided temporary housing, stating, "I’m grateful for the kindness of friends that we had a place to land last night."

Hilary Duff and her husband Matthew Koma stepped up to support Goldsmith’s family by offering them shelter during this trying time. Goldsmith expressed immense gratitude for their generosity, stating, "They've taken care of my entire family from the moment this began." He further remarked on the significance of such support by saying, "This is the kindest act any human could do for another."

In light of the destruction caused by the wildfires, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help Griffin Goldsmith’s family with expenses related to the fires. The campaign quickly gained traction, raising over $204,000—a testament to the community’s willingness to lend a helping hand in times of need.

Despite facing backlash for sharing details about the GoFundMe campaign, Moore stood her ground, telling critics to "Kindly F OFF." Her determination illustrated her commitment to supporting her friend and his family during this crisis.
