West Point Cancels Award Ceremony for Tom Hanks Sparking Praise from Trump

West Point recently called off an award ceremony meant to honor actor and historical author Tom Hanks, meant to take place on September 25. President Donald Trump, not surprisingly, noticed the decision to call off the ceremony and weighed in. He raised an objection on the grounds of the values that were being honored by the award’s recipient.

The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) had an audacious idea. They were planning to award Hanks the academy’s highly coveted Thayer Award for his remarkable contributions to society. Hanks gained acclaim for his leading role in the Spielberg-directed, World War II-themed film “Saving Private Ryan.” He’s a huge advocate for veterans and is the creator of hit miniseries such as “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” He displays tremendous commitment to celebrating military service. He is the national spokesman for the World War II memorial campaign and is chair of the capital campaign for a D-Day museum.

Hanks’ repeated public criticism of President Trump spelled the beginning of a rift between the actor and the administration. Earlier this year, the Trump administration mandated that West Point remove resources related to topics such as diversity and anti-racism. The cancellation of Hanks’ award ceremony is particularly noteworthy given Mr. Even more importantly, it underscores the administration’s recent, absurd escalation of open warfare between themselves and their critics.

An equally exuberant Tom Hanks recently expressed his fervor at the prospect of coming to West Point. He cited the chance to receive the Thayer Award as “truly amazing.” He was very excited about this award even though it’s still uncertain if he will get the award without the official ceremony.

“Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks. Important move!”

Between a lengthy career and his evident love for veterans, Tom Hanks would make an outstanding choice. That’s in sharp opposition to what we hear from President Trump. The cancellation of this award ceremony highlights a broader national dialogue regarding dissent, recognition of public figures, and the values upheld by institutions such as West Point.

“We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!”

Tom Hanks had expressed excitement about the opportunity to visit West Point and accept the Thayer Award, describing it as “simply astounding.” Despite his enthusiasm, it remains unclear whether he will still receive the award without the formal ceremony.

Tom Hanks’ body of work and his commitment to veterans stand in stark contrast to the sentiments expressed by President Trump. The cancellation of this award ceremony highlights a broader national dialogue regarding dissent, recognition of public figures, and the values upheld by institutions such as West Point.
