Wednesday Season 2 Unveils New Killer Character Amidst Controversy

Netflix seems to be preparing for the much anticipated second season of “Wednesday.” Part 1 debuts August 6, and Part 2 on September 3! The show continues to follow the dark escapades of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega. This season really explores that side of her that’s obsessed with serial killers. Her obsession started as a little girl, when at the age of 11 years old she first reported about a famous criminal in her class at school.

In a stunning move, Haley Joel Osment appears on the cast! As to whom he’ll be playing, that’s still a mystery — until today, anyway — but it will be a character named The Kansas City Scalper. The first six minutes of the new season were unveiled at Netflix’s Tudum event, showcasing an intense opening scene where Wednesday finds herself tied up by Osment’s character.

“There’s some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy,” – Miles Millar, co-creator.

The new clip introduces Thing, Wednesday’s disembodied hand and faithful sidekick, to her rescue. Thing alerts Wednesday to a concerning detail: her eyes are bleeding. With her trademark deadpan delivery, Wednesday refers to it as “a slight psychic hiccup.” She adamantly instructs Thing to make sure this bleeding remains a secret from her mother.

The Kansas City Scalper looks almost exactly like Osment’s real-life counterpart, which only makes the character’s purpose more interesting. In a climactic act of rebellion, Thing pummels the Scalper into unconsciousness, giving Wednesday the chance to escape. This season goes even further than the last. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar guarantee that intensity will be dialed up to 11 episode after episode.

“We have that in season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I’ll say,” – Miles Millar.

So if the reaction to Osment’s casting seems a bit excessive, that’s understandable, especially given his recent run-in with the law. Then he went and got himself arrested at a ski resort. The charges — disorderly conduct and possession of cocaine — which provided some added drama to his casting on the show.

The “Wednesday” superfan will be rewarded with a shocking, suspense-drenched second season. This new season begins on a more ominous note, raising the stakes for exciting surprises that far exceed Season 1, when Wednesday infamously released piranhas on a swimming pool full of bullies. With its distinctive mix of joystick-jabbing action and horrific hilarity, the new season is sure to thrill fans a second time around.
