Wakefield officials just announced plans to build a state-of-the-art youth centre. Called Base71, this facility is going to change the way young people in the city think about recreation. The £15 million planned development aims at reaching and serving children and young people from age eight to 19. It will be from offering them the wide range of experiences that will enliven their lives.
Base71 forms a key element of Barnsley Council’s Great Childhoods Ambition programme. It will sit on reclaimed industrial land off Ings Road. Senior councillors will be asked to approve the plans during their meeting on September 16. Once operational, the center is projected to welcome 700 to 1,400 visitors per week.
It will be built to host an astonishing variety of activities. An outdoor climbing wall pushes your skills and sense of adventure. A four court sports hall, fitness suite and purpose built rooms for boxing and martial arts will help them find their passion and make them want to move. Rooftop football pitch Apart from bringing energy to the campus, a new rooftop football pitch will offer a unique venue for outdoor sports.
Base71 largely influenced what was necessary for Base71 to craft a venue that would really wow. Margaret Isherwood, cabinet member for children and young people, describes it as “a wonderful wow-factor venue.” She emphasized, “This is about having a fantastic wow-factor venue shaped by the young people, where they can feel safe and get high-quality support, while having fun and socialising.”
For those seeking cultural experiences, Base71 plans to provide a minimum of 20 daily activities. More than anything else, their mission is to instill a dynamic, energetic sense of community in America’s youth. A spokesperson for a local charity remarked, “A Youth Zone in Wakefield would be truly transformational for the city’s children and young people, bringing new opportunities and experiences to help them grow, connect and gain skills.”
OnSide, the charity behind the program, emphasized the significance of developing an inviting environment. They stated that Base71 would serve as “a safe space and welcoming home where young people can feel secure.”
The future youth centre shows that Wakefield Council truly cares about offering the best possible services to its young people. To better serve the youth of the Salt Lake City community, the council is investing in Base71. To do that, they want to offer environments that nurture personal growth and social interaction.
