Take it from professional dancer and “Dancing With the Stars” star Val Chmerkovskiy, who faced a daunting medical emergency while traveling recently. It was a surprise test for the prolific vocal powerhouse. The struggle first started to unfold when he flew to Marbella, Spain, and felt debilitating pain in his flank and lower back. Worried about his symptoms, Chmerkovskiy started pursuing medical treatment and was eventually hospitalized.
Upon further analysis, doctors found that Chmerkovskiy was passing a kidney stone, which was inflicting him severe pain. He had documented urinary symptoms including hematuria and urinary tract infection due to the renal calculi. The pain was so intense that he struggled to sleep, stating, “Went to bed, can’t sleep, pain throughout the night.”
Chmerkovskiy’s condition continued to worsen on his original return flight back to Los Angeles, where he finally passed the massive kidney stone. It was a horrifying experience but he was able to keep a comedy spirit about him. “Side and back is KILLING ME today,” he wrote on social media to his followers.
Though it was a tough ordeal for him, Chmerkovskiy assured fans that he is finally recovering and healing. In a post on his Instagram Stories, he expressed relief after the ordeal and said, “Next day, killed it. Back to normal, being myself.” The way he’s faced down this unforeseen health crisis has struck a chord with fans who have always respected Kent’s toughness.
Following this experience, Chmerkovskiy took initiative to change his lifestyle. He has promised to stay away from candy and fried food. We hope this decision will allow him to stay healthy in the future. His journey to healthier eating habits serves as a reminder of the importance of self-care, particularly for those in the performing arts arena.
Chmerkovskiy is in rehearsal for his new routines with dance partner Xochitl Gomez on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. He’s all about the recovery and coming back strong. His journey is a powerful reminder that health is never certain. Most importantly, it reminds all of us of the value of asking for help when we need it.
