The University has achieved excellent results in the most recent UK-wide poll, ranking above the sector average in four key categories. Carried out every year, this student-led, independent survey gathers the views of final year undergraduate students on their experiences at university. Over 2,000 students took part this year largely informing the overall picture of what their college experience looks like.
The survey helped to shine a light on these University’s strengths, including the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, student voice and learning opportunities. Among other findings, this year’s result showed that senior attendees rated academic development and student learning as areas of above-average concern. The University has made deep and wide improvements in each of the seven core themes that Survey for Employees, or SERU, measured.
Professor Gill Knight, Pro Vice Chancellor for Academic Leadership and Student Experience, said she was delighted with the outcome. She noted the great shout-out to our commitment and elbow grease. Our dedicated professional services staff keeps the academic side humming along, working day and night to provide an exceptional student experience.
The survey is an essential mechanism for gauging student attitudes and experiences. It’s a great indicator of the effectiveness of the institution’s teaching methods, but a good opportunity to identify where institutions can improve and attract students with more valuable offerings. The University has a particular strength in the quality of teaching and assessment received, well above the sector average. This accomplishment is a testament to its unwavering dedication to providing a quality culture of learning.
Professor Knight emphasized the significance of these discoveries. Commenting on the news, he said, “It’s particularly gratifying to note that we are doing better than the sector average in four major categories, such as the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, and student voice.” This recognition further underscores our University’s commitment to never settling and always striving for the best in higher education.
Our goal is to use the results of this survey to inform future initiatives that will continue to improve student experience and engagement. The University has established a solid track record with high ratings. Moving forward, it stands poised to build off its wide array of achievements while addressing the execution’s clear shortcomings.
