Uniform for All Receives Support from Comic Relief to Aid Families in Need

Uniform for All, a charity dedicated to providing free school uniforms to families in need, has announced that it will receive funding from Comic Relief ahead of the organization’s 2026 event in Salford. The charity, run by volunteers, has saved thousands of families the costs of new uniforms by recycling donated uniforms. It aims to reduce the cost of school uniforms where applicable, especially during its high-activity months of July & August, just ahead of when school starts in September.

Chief Executive Julie Waller created Uniform for All. Her mission is to provide every child in need with the basic necessities of school clothing. Each year, the charity mails out thousands of these items anonymously. Parents can conveniently pick up these materials from 16 participating library branches. Uniform for All is now active in 81 schools. They hardly just do bread, either — they boast of having more than 500 different types of products to help nourish people in need.

The need for uniforms has increased massively, with requests doubling between December 2025 to January 2026. This uptick has created new strains on the organization. It’s an expensive program—each package costs around £10 to collect, clean, and redistribute.

Wendy Howard, a single mother of two who has benefited from the program. The Uniform for all scheme has had a huge impact on my family’s life. “It’s saving me money that I can then spend on food and buy other stuff for my children,” she stated, highlighting the program’s impact on her family’s financial situation.

“Uniform for All volunteer Lorraine Thompson expressed these same feelings about the community that the charity has built. ‘We all get on so well, the atmosphere is lovely and we have a good laugh,’ she shared, illustrating the camaraderie among volunteers.”

Thompson shared stories about how Julie Waller’s leadership has changed the lives of vulnerable families. “One lady said to me she thanks God for Julie – who runs the organisation – because she has a big family and she really struggles,” she remarked.

Uniform for All are sticklers for our motto, “If we have it, you can have it.” This move is in keeping with our mission of providing every family the means to obtain school uniforms, no matter their financial situation. As they prepare for the upcoming school season, the support from Comic Relief will be pivotal in helping them meet the growing needs of their community.
