Uber recently announced its first pilot program of this kind within the U.S. Its mission is to enhance the ride and drive experience for female users of the platform. The new Women Rider Preference feature gives women drivers control to match with women riders only. It allows them to have a more pleasant and safer ride experience.
To get to this new feature, create or update your profile in settings within the Uber Driver app. Women drivers are able to turn on a feature that connects them with women riders only. Through this initiative, women are empowered with more choice and control over their rides. It zeroes in on those hours of most profitable work, particularly the busy evening rush. Uber plans to roll out this feature in three major markets: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit.
Uber’s determination to raise the standard globally for women’s safety and experience goes beyond our borders. After successful launches in several other countries, the company rolled the Women Rider Preference feature out to 40 other nations. These countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, France, India, Mexico, and Poland.
Women comprise just under a fifth of Uber’s U.S. drivers today, underscoring the potential impact of this effort. Uber lets its female drivers opt in to this option. By implementing this decision, they hope to create a more inclusive atmosphere and improve the overall comfort of women while using the ride-sharing platform.
Uber’s strategy is centered around their riders’ safety and comfort. The Women Rider Preference counterbalance electrifies women riders. It gives them the option to match with trips only alongside other women riders. This step plays right into Uber’s overall narrative of improving its platform for the benefit of all.
“When we make our platform better for women, we make it better for everyone.” – Camiel Irving, Uber’s vice president of operations, U.S. and Canada.
