Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has pointed to the lack of safety for host cities in the U.S. If he finds any of them perilous, he would be within his rights to propose moving matches elsewhere during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Women’s World Cup would be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The last game will be held in New Jersey.
In a shocking exchange during a recent Oval Office press conference, Trump stated that. He asked pointedly about the safety of venues in Seattle and San Francisco. Six matches are scheduled to take place at Seattle’s Lumen Field, while another six are set for Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
If I don’t feel like it’s safe, we’re going to pick up and relocate it out of that particular city. As proof of this promise, Trump continued, raising his right hand. So if any of the cities that we imagine are going to be at least a little bit dangerous during the World Cup, we don’t let them. We’ll move it around a little bit. Well, I really hope that’s not going to happen.
He attributed the current climate of unsafe conditions in the country to his former policies. He had even sharper words for leadership in cities across the nation. Trump referred to Seattle and San Francisco as being managed by “radical left lunatics who don’t know what they’re doing,” implying that their governance could contribute to safety concerns.
Additionally, Trump mentioned that FIFA oversees World Cup matters and would ultimately make decisions regarding any necessary changes to the game sites.…build the players’ and fans’ confidence that there would be appropriate steps taken to create a highly secure and safe environment.
“Well, that’s an interesting question … we’re going to make sure they’re safe,” he remarked when asked about the potential risks associated with hosting matches in certain cities.
The next World Cup will be contested by 48 teams and the draw will take place on December 5 in Washington, D.C. Trump underscored that Memphis, Chicago and other host cities are going to be key players in planning for the World Cup. He further emphasized his commitment to making all of the host locations safe.
