Trooping the Colour, a longstanding military ceremony celebrating the official birthday of the British sovereign, is set to take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Even after 40 years, this dynamic annual event has deep cultural roots that reach back to the 17th century. It features all the regiments of the British Army as they march past the new monarch. King Charles III’s real birthday, November 14, is full—our apologies. The official coronation festivities are held in June, a practice that originated with King George III in the 18th century.
The ceremony will begin with an elaborate procession. It will process from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade, down The Mall, and back again. One regiment’s colours, or flag will be “trooped” before the monarch, continuing a practice back to its use by George II in 1748, and for centuries before. This year, active members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales, will participate in the event. Among those in attendance were the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, in what turned out to be one of her best looks ever, at Trooping the Colour 2025. She chose an iconic aquamarine coat dress by Catherine Walker. She finished her look off with a matching hat designed by Juliette Botterill. For her debut on the red carpet, Princess Catherine opted for a gorgeous low side bun hairdo. It perfectly matched the color of a rose bouquet, lending a floral sophistication to her entire ensemble.
The royal family turned out in full force for the ceremony. The Prince and Princess of Wales attended with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Princess Charlotte stole the show in her sky blue dress with white scallops. She just did a great job of showing off the royal family’s youthful, fun side!

The ostentatious jubilation surrounding the event course through defenders of the monarchy and nationalists. It’s a wonderful illustration of the strong, perennial bond between the British Army and the royal family.
While fans and royal watchers await the historic coronation, responses to last year’s closely watched events have reverberated on social media. One enthusiastic observer remarked:
“Stunning as always! She never disappoints.” – royal watcher
