Kelly Clarkson is mourning the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. He died in 1999 at the age of 48 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Blackstock, father of Clarkson’s two children, River and Remy, had long been struggling with health problems in recent years. River, 10 years old, and Remy, 8 years old. The announcement comes just weeks as Clarkson gets ready to launch her new Las Vegas residency. This follows a number of other cancellations due to her family situation.
Clarkson, 43, has recently announced a temporary halt to her residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. She did so out of consideration for Blackstock’s worsening health. She described how important it was for her to be home with her kids as they went through this difficult transition.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.” – Kelly Clarkson
The “Because of You” songstress, who won “American Idol” in 2006, married Blackstock in 2013 but filed for divorce in 2020, claiming irreconcilable differences. In spite of their contentiousness, Clarkson and Blackstock have both remained committed to doing right by their kids.
Clarkson has just four more shows this month left to go for her eponymous residency. The in-person performances will take place on August 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th. She’s made the difficult choice to postpone these performances. Fans impacted by the cancellations have 30 days to claim a refund. They can hang on to their tickets for the new dates, now scheduled for Nov. 7-8, and Nov. 14-15. On top of that, six other new dates already are scheduled in July and August of 2026.

In light of Clarkson’s decision to pause her shows, the management at The Colosseum expressed their support, saying:

Blackstock is perhaps best known for being the former husband of Kelly Clarkson, the stepson of country music star Reba McEntire. While his death is undoubtedly a heartbreaking tragedy, it’s a deep moment of beauty and grace for Clarkson as she and her family experience this transformation together.
