Both the royal family and Joanna’s family are inconsolable at her death, on April 25th. He passed away at the age of 45 in early February of 2024. Initially, Kingston had been married to Lady Gabriella Kingston, but she has since died. She is the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent and therefore a second cousin to Charles III. Kingston’s death has motivated his parents, Jill and Martin Kingston, to pursue advocacy on the issue. Today they are leading the call for major reform to how selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are prescribed and monitored. They pointed out that more education is necessary about the possible adverse effects of these drugs.
“I believe anyone taking pills such as these need to be made more aware of the side effects to prevent any future deaths. If this could happen to Tom, this could happen to anyone,” said Jill Kingston.

Here are two things that we’d like to see improved most. Currently, for every individual put on SSRIs to endorse, someone must sign a statement of informed consent. This ensures they’ve had an opportunity to discuss the challenges of using the medication and the challenges of stopping the medicine.
Moreover, she rallied for support through withdrawal from medication. Alongside that, we’d deeply would like to see that a individual, a wife or husband, a companion, a mum or dad, a detailed buddy, any individual was going to stroll with them via it. Perhaps those ought to be present at that signing.
In their grief, the Kingston family received overwhelming support from the community, with Lady Gabriella and Thomas receiving over 400 letters and cards following his death. As something of their own healing process, artist and activist Jill Kingston explained how they personally made and hung these messages around their home.
We decorated our hallway at home. We lit up an entire wall with the 400+ letters and cards by using adhesive glue dots to attach each card wall. In part, due to the fact that so many of them told us things we never knew,” she elaborated.
Lady Gabriella Kingston has pressed on with her public engagements throughout this difficult period. Recently, she was seen attending Wimbledon in a blue and white floral dress, signaling her determination to carry on despite her loss. The royal family has offered their condolences to her as she mourns her husband’s death.
