Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and his wife Jessica, died in a tragic accident. This tragic incident took place on Friday, March 21st. A traumatic trip Miller took with family members last summer even sparked a chain reaction of illness among the group. His parents announced the devastating news on the Yankees’ official X account. They shared favorite pictures of Miller and requested peace as they grieved.
Brett Gardner spent 14 seasons of his Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees. Today, he is bereaved and grieving at the loss of his dear son. In a statement, he said:
"Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss."
Miller was more than a beloved son and brother, whose infectious smile and warm spirit are greatly missed. As you can imagine, his family and friends, as well as the community of Philadelphia, are devastated. They are grieving the loss of a young life with so much promise and energy. Many in the Yankees organization came out to express their love and support for the Gardner family. Brett Gardner played his entire MLB career with them.
"It wasn't just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years — so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller," Brett Gardner emphasized in another statement.
Brett Gardner took the field for the first time in Major League Baseball with the Yankees in 2008. He made the difference for the New York Yankees in winning the World Series in 2009. While he did retire from professional baseball after the conclusion of the 2021 season, he leaves behind a legacy of commitment, honor, and excellence.
Our entire Yankees family, from players to front office staff and beyond, is grieving with the Gardners. Brett Gardner shared his sadness, mourning for those who have experienced this loss.
"Our prayers go out to Miller's teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief. Please respect our wishes for privacy as we mourn and search for healing."
