Tim Oliver to Address SEN and Devolution Plans on Breakfast Show

Tim Oliver, leader of Surrey County Council will face tough questions on special educational needs (SEN) on a live children’s breakfast show. He’ll be providing perspectives too on what’s brewing on the devolution front for the UK as a whole. The interview is scheduled for Wednesday at 09:00 BST, where Oliver will provide insights into his leadership and the impact of the council’s initiatives.

Tim Oliver was elected council leader in 2018. Since then, he has been an essential part of building a local governance in line with those beliefs. Representing the Weybridge division, he has focused his leadership on providing community services and on dealing with urgent local concerns. His work has led to national recognition reaching a high point with an OBE award in 2024, for services to local government.

During the live broadcast, Oliver will collectively address the crucial issue of surrey’s delayed municipal elections. These midterm elections were supposed to happen in 2025. That delay has now been extended to 2026. This action is a culmination of a larger strategy that seeks to improve local decision-making and governance. Oliver is at the forefront of these national conversations. He’s a zealous champion for shifting the balance of transportation decision-making power toward localities in ways that more directly address his residents’ needs.

The breakfast show provides an opportunity for Oliver to connect directly with constituents and stakeholders, allowing him to articulate his vision for Surrey’s future. He’s dedicated to advancing transparency. He leads by example in learning from communities about how devolution can improve services, particularly within education and social care.
