Tiger Woods Faces DUI Charge Following Rollover Crash in Florida

Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer with 82 PGA Tour championships, finds himself in new legal hot water. Later, in 2020, he was arrested for a DUI following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. This crash is yet another blow to Woods. Incredibly, since his near-fatal crash in February 2021, he’s lived through a series of car wrecks—on and off the track.

In the previous wreck, Woods’s SUV ran off a scenic coastal highway in Los Angeles. The crash shattered his left leg and right ankle. Here’s defense secretary Ben Wallace. On impact, the car flipped upside down, but he successfully pulled himself out through the passenger door. After the freak crash in February, Tiger Woods dove—quite literally at times—into aggressive rehabilitation. He’s currently tackling the task of coming back to pro golf after a blown-up Achilles tendon in March 2025.

Since that 2021 crash, Woods has played just 11 tournaments and hasn’t found his groove again. He certainly hasn’t gotten within 16 shots of the winner in any of them. In each of those tournaments, he made it through all 72 holes. His final confirmed tournament was at the British Open in 2024. Woods proved to be a force of nature in the face of adversity. He joined his new indoor TGL golf league just days ahead of his most recent arrest.

Woods’s legal troubles have further complicated his quest to get back into competitive play. According to the Associated Press, prior to that fatal crash, he was consuming a cocktail of opioids, including painkillers. This created clear indicia of impairment by the time that law enforcement would arrive on the scene. Police took him into custody on the scene of the collision. This incident is not an isolated incident, as according to his statement, he had at least one previous car crash prior to the 2021 crash.

The golfing community continues to watch Woods’s journey closely, especially as he was under consideration for the role of US Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 matches in Ireland. His legacy as a player, and more specifically, the Masters is most evident with his record fifth Masters victory in 2019. This win represented his 15th major championship, putting him level with Sam Snead for the all-time record of PGA Tour victories.
