He got him to stop looking down at the ground and address an audience with eye contact to help create a closer connection when performing. Luis’s guidance really struck home for Artis, who expressed his unique identity and still paid tribute to Taylor’s original classic.
It was clear from the judges’ comments just how effective Artis’ performance was. Lionel Richie praised it as “a masterful job,” while Luke Bryan noted, “It had hints of James Taylor but a lot of you. Way to be you!” Carrie Underwood applauded Artis for his unique approach, saying, “Well done on unabashedly singing it your way.”
Thunderstorm Artis’ performance had the judges on their feet. It actually earned him his spot in the live competition. Whatever it took to get him here, that talent positively sparkled against a night alive with all that classic music. This stunning performance landed him a Top 12 finalist position.
