Queen Mary, who acquired the piece and wore it throughout the 1930s, first inherited the choker from Empress Maria, who was seen wearing it in the 1890s. Following Queen Mary's passing in 1953, the choker was passed down to Queen Elizabeth II. However, Queen Elizabeth II rarely wore the exquisite piece before gifting it to her daughter, Princess Anne, in the early 1970s.
