CBS is just days away from premiering its newest music competition series, The Road. Brace yourselves for an awesome ride that takes you through the challenges and rewards of a life on tour as a musician! Tune in this fall when the show debuts airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. This innovative series combines music with a docu-drama format, chronicling the intense experiences of aspiring artists as they navigate the challenges of the music industry.
It will be up to a diverse and exceptionally creative group of 12 contestants including rappers, vocalists, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. Please meet our inaugural cohort pictured, from left to right, Adam Sanders, Olivia Harms, and Briana Adams. They’re accompanied by Cassidy Daniels, Billie Jo Jones, Blaine Bailey, Channing Wilson, Jon Wood and Britnee Kellogg. Other competitors are Cody Hibbard, Jenny Tolman, and Forrest McCurren. That eclectic crew will vie for the nation’s best composters title—and a still undisclosed Grand Prize.
A Star-Studded Production Team
Created by country music legends Keith Urban and Blake Shelton, The Road Acclaimed writer and director Taylor Sheridan was brought on aboard to open up the world and the focus on the transformative, wild journey of young, starving artists. As executive producer of the series, Sheridan was deeply committed to making sure the storytelling was as authentic and engaging as possible.
The upcoming show will bring country music stars on board as judges, and Urban and Shelton have already signed on to provide their talents. Plus, country superstar Gretchen Wilson will join the judging panel to share unique, insider perspectives on the highly competitive world of country music. Other guest judges from the genre will be revealed in coming weeks, increasing the excitement around the series even further.
The Journey of Elimination
Contestants will train hard and fight even harder as they move down The Road. At the end of the series, only one musician will be crowned the grand champion. There would be eliminations in every stop on the pit stop-filled journey. This will raise the stakes and test the participants’ resolve. This time-honored format is a real test of their musical mettle. It simultaneously raises awareness on the difficult realities frequently experienced by individuals who seek to make a living in music.
The competition provides audiences with an up-close look at the journeys of talented new artists. Join us as they address the emotional and professional hurdles that come with pursuing their aspirations! By taking a docu-drama approach, viewers will be able to immerse themselves and feel truly invested in each contestant’s journey.
Anticipation Builds for Launch
Given its ambitious premise and A-list ensemble, The Road is one of the most talked-about new shows heading into its debut. This unique fusion of music competition with documentary-style storytelling is what makes it unlike any other show in the genre. Each year, fans hope to catch a glimpse of who will step up when the lights are brightest and bring home that secret grand prize.
