Felicity Jones sparkled on the blue carpet at the launch of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ on Tuesday night. Across the stage, her director husband Charles Guard stood proudly by her side. The night brought a who’s who of celebrity attendees. Geri Halliwell-Horner, Ayda Field, and Cara Delevingne joined forces to shine a light on the very special documentary that has everyone buzzing.
Before his visit to London’s SOHO, the Prince of Wales had become a private screening of the film that took place earlier in the day. Save the date—it’s coming to theaters on May 8! This special date coincides with Sir David Attenborough’s 99th birthday, creating a poignant backdrop for the film’s launch. King Charles, 76, met with Sir David, 98, once again at the premiere. They warmly shared expressions of greeting and congratulations between participants and anticipated this exciting, welcoming new milestone.
The premiere showcased not only the film but the shared commitment to environmental conservation that both the King and Sir David have championed. The King has known Sir David for many years, having first met through their shared love of the natural world. Fond of this connection, he asked Attenborough what he wanted to do for his 99th birthday when they met again.
Toby Nowlan from Silverback Films called “Ocean with David Attenborough” Sir David’s “most important story.” He reiterated the need to prioritize ocean issues in the context of the growing climate crisis and environment-related calamities.
“A lot of people got together and said we need to make a seminal film to enact change for our ocean, to be released now – halfway through the United Nations’ decade of the ocean, this year, the year of the ocean – in time for the United Nations Oceans conference in June in Nice.” – Toby Nowlan
Sir David expressed his concerns regarding the state of the oceans, stating, “Today, it is in such poor health I would find it hard not to lose hope were it not for the most remarkable discovery of all.” He added, “If we save the sea, we save our world. After a lifetime of filming our planet, I’m sure nothing is more important.”
Or perhaps it was Felicity Jones who made her mark at the event. She was a showstopper in a stunning green gown that echoed the night’s oceanographic inspiration. Sofia Wellesley, wife of singer James Blunt, opted for a super couture ocean-blue one-shoulder gown. This gorgeous ensemble only highlighted the urgency of this timely documentary even further.
The buzz is already huge for “Ocean with David Attenborough.” Attendees walked away from the premiere with a renewed sense of hope and determination to take action to end ocean pollution and degradation.
