Star Jones: A Heartfelt Journey to Advocacy

Star Jones, a former cohost of the popular television show, The View, has become a prominent advocate for heart health following a life-altering event. Jones, who joined The View in 1997, is not only a renowned lawyer but also a TV personality with appearances on Divorce Court. Fourteen years ago, she underwent a critical open-heart surgery that lasted 22 minutes, during which her heart was disconnected. This experience has since fueled her commitment to promoting awareness about cardiovascular health.

Jones recently revisited her journey on Tamron Hall's talk show, where she has been a frequent guest and cohost. On February 4, 2022, she sat alongside the panel as an episode-long cohost. She returned as an interview guest on January 3, 2023, to commemorate the late Barbara Walters, the creator of The View who passed away in December 2022. During her appearances, Jones passionately discussed her surgery and the crucial message of heart health for women.

"They opened up my chest, cracked it, and disconnected my heart for 22 minutes. They put it back in the end."

Jones has been vocal about the preventability of cardiovascular diseases, emphasizing lifestyle changes as key. She asserts that 80% of such diseases can be prevented through healthier living choices.

"Eighty percent of cardiovascular disease is actually preventable by us doing lifestyle changes. There's no magic bullet: Eating better, getting some exercise."

In advocating for heart health, Jones also highlights the dangers of smoking, urging individuals to avoid this harmful habit.

"Please don't smoke. It's the dumbest, most expensive, ridiculously life-threatening habit there is. So, don't smoke. That will actually help out."

Her message resonates strongly with women, who are often at risk but may overlook symptoms or the importance of preventive measures. By sharing her personal story and insights, Jones seeks to empower others to take control of their heart health through informed lifestyle choices.
