Theodore Tundidor, an immigrant from St. Augustine, is facing life in prison on starkly different charges. He’s currently being charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and robbery after entering a local smoke shop on June 29. Things got worse when Tundidor, while stealing store merchandise, allegedly tried to kidnap a female customer.
Per reports from law enforcement, Tundidor ran into the smoke shop and started stealing goods. Emma, the victim, wisely fought back and courageously stepped in to help prevent him. In return, he reportedly kicked her out of the store and placed her in a chokehold. Body camera video and surveillance footage showed the terrifying moments Tundidor pulled his wife outside by the hair. He continued to attempt to shove her into an awaiting police car.
Eyewitnesses to the scene in Colorado were horrified at what was happening. One bystander who called 911 told dispatch, “There’s a woman getting attacked.
In his confession to sheriff’s deputies, Tundidor admitted that he took Emma and the store’s products “at the same time.” However, he was charged with multiple counts of operating a stolen motor vehicle. Police found Tundidor when, less than 30 minutes after the incident, they stopped him for driving recklessly — complicating his legal troubles even further.
Emma recounted her experience, stating, > “I got in his way so he wouldn’t leave with the product.” Her intervention was arguably the most important factor in preventing Tundidor from successfully abducting her.
Tundidor’s actions on that day have sparked fear and worry among members of the community, who now question their safety and security in spaces like local businesses. Law enforcement officials encourage residents to stay alert and report any unusual activity.
