Shedeur Sanders Remains Hopeful as NFL Draft Continues Without His Name Called

Shedeur Sanders came into the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the best quarterback prospects. As the draft enters its fourth round, he has yet to be selected. Once the heavy favorite for a high draft pick, the Colorado alum was experiencing a forgettable 2023 campaign. Now, he sits nervously waiting to hear his name called as teams ignored him through the first three rounds.

As the draft opened again on Saturday, Sanders announced on social media platform X that he was hopeful. He added, “It’s a blessing every day I get to wake up and play this game that I love .. THANK YOU GOD #LEGENDARY.” This thinking shows his optimism and tenacity, even in the face of what was happening all around him.

Sanders to be one of the two best passing prospects, along with Miami’s Cam Ward. Everyone, including most of the experts, figured him to be a top-five pick in the draft. Analysts gave rave reviews for him, rating him higher than Ward. Ultimately, though, Ward surprised by going first overall to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. During those initial two days of the draft, Sanders was the fifth quarterback selected. Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel were all in the queue, leaving Sanders still looking for a home.

On the Friday rounds, teams who had a clear need at quarterback repeatedly passed on Sanders. It was a move that underscored a stunning retreat from his original forecasts. Expectations skyrocketed for him after he scintillated fans last season. His crowning achievement had to be his five touchdown passes against Central Florida on September 28, 2024, including this incredible throw.

With the NFL Draft underway and already into its fourth round, Sanders’ future is still in limbo. He was very much looking forward to his selection planned but now finds himself dejected. Instead, he sees other quarterbacks vesperly waltz into the league and seal their drops.
