Authorities are still looking for four of the five people who went missing after a natural resources helicopter crashed Sunday in eastern Quebec. On late Friday, June 20, 2025, the Airmedic helicopter went down into a lake close to Natashquan. This site is more than 1,000 kilometers northeast of Montreal. Onboard the flight were five friends traveling together. Only one person survived the wreckage but fortunately had no life-threatening injuries.
The crash was reported on June 23, 2025, at 12:14 PM. As of the latest update at 1:02 PM on the same day, search efforts continued for the four missing individuals. The crash is being investigated by the Surete du Quebec provincial police. In the meantime, both the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) and Quebec’s workplace health and safety board are still investigating to establish what caused it.
Airmedic, the operator of the helicopter, has temporarily suspended operations. They are taking this kind of action in service of their employees as we all navigate this unprecedented health crisis. We commend this decision, which recognizes the seriousness of the offense and the company’s duty toward its employees.
Search teams have been tirelessly for three days in hopes of locating whoever, if anyone, may have stood outside the crash site. Here’s more about the rescue efforts from Today. Since Sunday’s accident, rescuers have struggled with treacherous terrain and lake conditions, making it that much harder to find those missing.
The helicopter’s flight at the time it tragically went down was a medical transport mission. Eyewitness accounts say that they saw the plane flying right before it went behind trees, making many question what happened in the moments before the deadly crash.
Officials have not yet released the identities of those on board the helicopter or provided any additional information about their conditions. As investigations proceed, family members and friends await news about their loved ones in a state of anxiety and uncertainty.
