Jon Uline, a manager of several commercial and industrial buildings in Scarborough, has persistently requested Metrolinx to repair damages left by their crews. These damages occurred at a property located at 2358 Midland Avenue, which Uline oversees. The issue stems from Metrolinx's access to the site five years ago to work on a rail line, leaving the property's parking lot in disrepair.
Uline's employer, the owner of Luiza Investments, had initially allowed Metrolinx access to this property five years ago. The arrangement was made informally, as Uline explains, "We thought it was a goodwill gesture at the time to allow them access so they could add a rail line." However, he notes that no formal agreement or compensation was secured: "We never got a dime. We never signed any agreement. It was all an informal thing."
The damage resulted from heavy equipment, such as excavators and dump trucks, used by Metrolinx crews. According to Uline, "It’s completely torn up because they had all kinds of heavy equipment, excavators, dump trucks." The condition of the parking lot has deteriorated significantly, prompting Uline to exclaim, "Tear this up and repave it, because the whole underlayment is shot."
Despite his efforts over the years, Uline remains in limbo as he awaits the necessary repairs. Last year, an engineer and a Metrolinx staff member visited the site to assess the situation. However, no concrete actions have been taken to remedy the issue. A visitor to the site expressed surprise at the situation by saying, "Oh, geez, yeah, that’s terrible," while another promised to follow up with, "I’ll get back to you."
To amplify his concerns, Uline reached out to Speakers Corner for assistance. Their involvement prompted inquiries with Metrolinx staff about the ongoing issue. Despite these efforts and his five-year-long working relationship with Metrolinx, Uline is still waiting for a resolution.
