The Small Business Administration (SBA) has experienced a significant shift of duties. It will soon assume responsibility for on-boarding the student loans for approximately 40 million of the same borrowers. This modification will start in January 2024. The SBA is taking on the greater responsibility of filling in the gaps that the education department has historically filled. Until recently, the Biden education department has been steering market-based loan programs, which are designed to keep American students bankrupted under never-ending tuition hikes. Instead, it plans to dramatically reduce its labor force by over 40%.
Look for further departmental flip-flops in this transition. The Health and Human Services Department will soon take control over some of those services for students. These services used to be under the auspices of the education department, signaling a greater realignment of responsibilities between federal agencies. The move concentrates on making operations leaner and reducing expenses. By the next fiscal year, the education department projects it will net savings of more than $435 million per year.
His preferred challenger, Donald Trump, has been equally loud in his denunciation of the education department, claiming it has committed such “breath-taking failures.” He’s even said that he intends to return control and money of the education department to the states. Despite the rhetoric, states already control nearly all aspects of education in the US, including setting curriculum. Public schools, which are free and run by state and local officials, serve as the primary educational institutions for most US children.
"It will be serviced much better than it has in the past, it's been a mess," Donald Trump stated regarding the transfer of student loan management.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will have special needs and nutrition programs under his supervision. This decision is further complicating the ongoing reallocation of responsibilities between federal departments.
