Sandra Bullock has issued a warning to the public about scams emanating from social media accounts impersonating her. Her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, recently shared a concerning post highlighting the issue. Fake accounts have been created by scammers pretending to be Bullock, which has led to significant financial and emotional distress for some victims. Despite Bullock-Prado's efforts in reporting these accounts to Meta, her reports have largely been ignored.
Bullock-Prado has also taken measures by involving a security service that directly provides account addresses to a Meta employee. This approach comes after several incidents, including one where a French woman lost $850,000 after being convinced she was in a relationship with someone impersonating Brad Pitt. Pitt himself has cautioned the public against interacting with any social media accounts that claim to be him or other celebrities.
Bullock-Prado maintains only one account on Facebook, primarily for the purpose of monitoring these scams. She remains active on the platform to stay informed about potential threats and coordinate with local law enforcement, who have been commendable in their response to these issues.
"i also report to a security service that gives the account addresses directly to a Meta employee. These accounts are run by crime rings. They also run fake groups where a fake me posts 'official statements.' Not me. This is my only account and y'all know it's about baking, cooking, animals, and gardening. I'm a grown assed middle aged woman with a life and I don't troll around at 54 DMing people." – Gesine Bullock-Prado
The safety of her family and innocent victims remains Bullock's paramount concern amidst this troubling situation. She urges the public to be vigilant and warns that any accounts posing as her or her associates are fraudulent, created to exploit individuals financially.
"My family's safety, as well as the innocent people being taken advantage of, is my deep concern," – Sandra Bullock
"Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media," – Sandra Bullock
"Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me." – Sandra Bullock
Bullock-Prado advises her followers to report and block any fake accounts they encounter and recommends avoiding interaction with these imposters entirely.
"If you see a fake account, are friended or messaged by one, report and block," – Gesine Bullock-Prado
