Despite this seismic change for their father – Prince Andrew will no longer be known as HRH – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will keep their royal titles. The decision comes in light of Buckingham Palace’s recent announcement regarding Prince Andrew’s loss of royal style, titles, and honors due to what the palace described as “serious lapses of judgment.”
Both princesses were born as male-line grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II and have held the titles “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York” and “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York” since birth. Today, Princess Eugenie is 12th in line to the British throne.
Professionally, Princess Beatrice works at the tech firm Afiniti, while Princess Eugenie serves as a director at the prestigious Hauser & Wirth art gallery. Both sisters have carved out their own paths outside the royal family, showcasing their talents and dedication to various causes.
Outside of their professional lives Princess Eugenie has deep links to charitable causes. She is a vocal patron of groups including Elephant Family and Teenage Cancer Trust. Alongside this, she advocates for the European School of Osteopathy. In addition, she is co-founder of the Anti-Slavery Collective charity, which works against human trafficking and modern slavery.
After their respective marriages, both princesses took on new titles. Princess Eugenie, who married Jack Brooksbank in 2018, has been styled as Her Royal Highness since then. Her complete style is therefore Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank. Since her marriage in July 2020, Princess Beatrice has been styled Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. She accepts this new title with dignity and pride. Unsurprisingly, neither of their husbands were given titles when they married into the British royal family.
Despite their father’s recent controversies, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie remain welcome at royal family events, including gatherings at Sandringham. This, as Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Andrew will from now on be styled Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. He is expected to leave his current home, the Royal Lodge in Windsor, and take up residence in private housing on the Sandringham estate.
It is the first time some recent statements from Buckingham Palace have underscored the seriousness of the situation in which Prince Andrew is embroiled.
“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” – Buckingham Palace’s statement.
Additionally, the palace noted:
“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.” – Buckingham Palace’s statement.
