Will Warr, a London-based videographer, is a pretty excellent — and well known — Royal Filmmaker. He recently joined us to talk about evolving career, why he’s focusing on more personal and truthful narratives. Known for his work with the Princess of Wales and various celebrities, Warr is increasingly drawn to personal narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.
In 2023, Warr accompanied Kate Middleton and her three children to a baby bank, showcasing the vital contributions of volunteers. This was just the latest chapter in his ongoing work to bring important, real-life stories to light on a broader stage. He shared how the experience of becoming a father has dramatically shaped how he tells stories.
“Since becoming a father, I’ve found myself drawn to more intimate, honest stories. I shoot a lot more personal moments now – just me, my eldest son Fred, and a camera on a tripod in the house or at the park.” – Will Warr
Balancing Work and Family Life
As a father of two with a demanding career as a professional videographer, Warr understands how difficult it can be to juggle work and care for young children. To me, what stands out most is his insistence on being fully present in each of the two worlds that comprise his life.
“I’ve had to learn to be present with whatever I’m doing. If I’m on set, I’m all in. If I’m at home with the kids, I try to leave work at the door, which is hard at times.” – Will Warr
Warr has found ways to compartmentalize his many responsibilities and focus on each. As a leader of teams on both sides of his ventures, Detail and TOPJAW, delegation is key to his success. But even he concedes that this is not so simple at times.
“I now have teams on both sides; Detail and TOPJAW, and delegation is key but that’s not always easy. I’ve found that routines, boundaries, and saying no to things helps.” – Will Warr
Future Aspirations
Now, though, while they are still interested in pursuing that possibility, quality content creation takes precedence over pursuing opportunities.
“But honestly, we’re just focused on doing the work we love – making the best content we can, and seeing where it takes us. The audience keeps growing, and that’s what keeps the energy up. Netflix would be cool, but right now, we’re making the exact content we want to, every day.” – Will Warr
Warr’s recent projects include creating a film to help launch Odyssey, a pre-school located in a Grade II listed building in Marylebone. He further described this project as 100% on brand for him as a filmmaker.
“Creating a film to help launch the stunning Odyssey, a pre-school in Marylebone, was a project that was totally up my street. From the moment I visited, I knew I wanted to be involved; it’s such a beautiful location and the brief allowed me to play to my strengths as a filmmaker.” – Will Warr
