Mel Owens, 66, a retired NFL linebacker–turned–social entrepreneur and attorney–has officially been tapped to star in “The Golden Bachelor” next summer. We’re thrilled to have this amazing series come to life on ABC and across Hulu. With this announcement, Owens has entered an exciting new chapter in his life. Now, he’s on the quest to fall in love for the second time!
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Owens hails from a loving, supportive, traditional Midwestern family. He has two sons with his one true love. After weathering some serious storms of his own, such as losing his father and a divorce himself, he devotes much of his life to helping others raise them. With these events, Owens decided to refocus his life and spend more time with family, coaching both sons in entertainment athletics including performing arts such as step.
After his NFL career, Owens made the jump from football to law, moving to Orange County, California. There, he built a thriving sports injury practice, representing athletes who have been injured by the negligence of their own compatriots. That dual commitment to family and profession has become the driving force of his post-NFL life.
>The Golden Bachelor prepares for a fresh new season. Owens re-enters the scene as perennial starry-eyed optimist yet again. He’s looking forward to being an adventurous companion and experiencing life’s joys with a partner that’s right for him.
“I am looking forward to the simple joys of companionship – sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple.” – Good Morning America
And as the show’s debut draws near, fans are left wondering how Owens will handle love in this special singles’ paradise. The premise of “The Golden Bachelor” is to match older singles, giving them a chance to find love in the golden years of their lives. Combining his extensive upbringing and life experiences, Owens easily pairs that with a ton of sincerity and wisdom that truly makes the show magic.
