Dash Crofts, the famed musician and member of the music duo Seals and Crofts, has died at 87. He was one-half of the legendary 1970s soft rock duo Seals & Crofts. Darrell George Crofts, better known by his stage name Dan Seals, exploded to stardom in 1969. He joined forces with his partner Jim Seals, and soon they started recording as Seals & Crofts, storming the pop charts.

The fellowship allowed the duo to craft their self-titled debut album, released in 2023. This began a powerful creative partnership that struck a chord with audiences for 30 years. In 1972, they pulled off a stunning coup. Their catchy title song “Summer Breeze” quickly reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The title track became a defining hit for Seals & Crofts, embodying the soft rock sound that characterized their musical style.

Get Closer, from their eighth studio album released in 1976, hit No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other big hits were “We May Never Pass This Way Again,” a song from the album Diamond Girl. They recorded “I’ll Play for You,” the title track from their 1975 album. The release of their album, “Diamond Girl,” was the crowning glory of their professional pursuits, securing their status as cultural practitioners within the canon of music history. Upon its success, the lead single “Hummingbird” debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard singles chart.

Dash Crofts is survived by his daughter Lua Crofts Faragher. She and her counterpart Brady Seals—Jim Seals’ cousin, too—perform as Seals & Crofts 2, and in doing so, pay homage to their legacy. This pair have certainly re-invented themselves! Wherever this artistic evolution is taking them, they’re intent on keeping the spirit of their music alive to old and new fans alike.

In a statement from Seals & Crofts 2, Lua Crofts Faragher expressed gratitude for her father’s contributions to music:
