She conveyed how the support has been instrumental in her ability to engage with the community, stating, “Jersey Mencap helps me to get out the house for a while.” The importance of an inclusive community This sentiment was echoed by her mother, Shelia Morels, who emphasized the social benefits of the Mencap social club. She remarked, “The Mencap social club is brilliant because it gives them a social life that they wouldn’t normally have and experiences.”
Libby Paisley from the Adult Learning Disability Service was particularly eloquent on the role of the service. Their campaigns focus on improving health and making sure people with learning disabilities can use regular services like everyone else. “Our services are important in the sense that we look at the health of people with learning disabilities and support them to access mainstream services,” she noted.
