Quinta Brunson Shines in Her Return as SNL Host with Special Guest Benson Boone

Quinta Brunson returned to host an exciting episode of “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) this past weekend, captivating audiences with her comedic talent and engaging presence. This episode was Brunson’s second turn in the director’s chair for the iconic late-night sketch comedy program. She hosted during season 48.

The night not only highlighted Brunson’s wit but served as a platform for her to celebrate short stature, referencing her own height of 4’11”. She playfully recognized other short celebrities like Kendrick Lamar, and even performed a song that perfectly fit her new stature. From start to finish, she proved her ability to combine personal stories with laugh-out-loud humor, making every sketch come to life and leave you wanting more.

Brunson, a former TTP artist-turned-superstar in her own right, was recently honored with an honorary degree from Temple University. This honor occurred last summer at the university’s commencement proclamation. Her contributions and accomplishments evoke fear, respect and admiration from her contemporaries. Tony winner and former SNL cast member Denny Dillon singled her out for her exceptional performance on the Emmy-winning series Abbott Elementary.

“Quinta Brunson deserves every award she’s received. Love Abbott Elementary, her creation. Writing is sharp and she and all the other actors, originals.” – Denny Dillon

Throughout the episode there were a number of standout moments. One standout example was a sketch where Brunson, paired with Kenan Thompson, portrayed elderly parents who had just recently obtained life insurance. This hilarious twist on growing up and adulting underscored Brunson’s knack for approaching a wide array of topics with humor.

Brunson was onstage with Dillon. Dillon is preparing for the nationwide release of her memoir, Two Tickets to Calamity. The two vibed off each other with good-natured ribbing and reminiscing about their respective career paths, bringing a warm, nostalgic vibe to the evening. Dillon told TPG that she has been a fan of Brunson’s talent and perspective on comedy.

Brunson announced musical guest Benson Boone. It was his first live performance on the SNL stage. She stuck around on set throughout the start of Boone’s scene. That decision further underscored her deeply nurturing spirit and fierce loyalty to her artistic sisters.

The confessional episode contained the best hummus ever, thanks to amazing cast member Heidi Gardner who asks why she’s not as pretty as Diane Keaton. This serious exchange succeeded in evoking the fun, joyous atmosphere Brunson fostered all evening.

Brunson wasn’t afraid to get personal in her performance. She completely disarmed the audience using down-to-earth humor and honest words of compassion. Her gift for helping the audience feel something was on full display as she moved seamlessly through the sketches, making sure each one hit right in the heart.

Brunson was clearly thrilled, as she explained on a special, celebratory edition of the show. She’s especially looking forward to the new play, *Dying Is No Excuse*, by Renee Taylor, directed by Elaine May. This project marks her latest leap of faith in her ongoing effort to push the boundaries of her craft beyond the small screen.

Notably, Brunson participated in a conversation with SNL veterans Tina Fey and Amy Poehler during the 50th Anniversary Special’s Q&A segment. This conversation not only reinforced her position in the pantheon of SNL greatness, but it underscored the respect she has earned from those that came before her.

Through a blend of humor, personal stories, and heartfelt interactions, Quinta Brunson successfully created an engaging atmosphere for viewers during her return as host. Her unique approach of incorporating personal stories with funny punchlines is what made this episode go viral.
