Queen’s Heartfelt Visit to Swindon: A Royal Return After 47 Years

Queen Camilla made a significant visit to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, to inaugurate a newly transformed emergency unit. It was her first time back at the hospital in 47 years, a place she last visited when giving birth to her daughter, Laura. Her visit marked an important occasion as she praised the hospital's £35 million development and its impact on healthcare in the region. The Queen also took time to meet therapy dog Fenton and unveiled a plaque at Prospect Hospice, emphasizing her support for end-of-life care services.

The Queen expressed her admiration for the new emergency department, noting its positive influence on the community. She shared her personal connection to the hospital, mentioning that her grandchildren—Eliza, Gus, and Louis—are frequent visitors to its A&E department.

"I am so impressed by this A&E. I have had very good feedback because I have had friends who come here and grandchildren who have been here on several occasions." – The Queen

During her tour, the Queen highlighted how long it had been since she last set foot in the hospital.

"I was thinking about it, and I probably haven't been inside this hospital for 47 years – since I had my daughter, so that was a few years ago." – The Queen

Her daughter, Camilla, opened the new emergency unit, bringing a personal touch to the occasion. Camilla's children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes, were proud moments of her life; with Tom having two children, Lola and Freddy, with his former wife, Sara Buys.

Queen Camilla recognized the dedication of the hospital staff and the transformative work they have achieved in the new emergency department.

"I really wanted to congratulate everybody who has done such a brilliant job with this place and everyone who is working here." – The Queen

After visiting the hospital, the Queen proceeded to Prospect Hospice in Wroughton, Swindon. This hospice provides essential end-of-life care services free of charge for residents in north-east Wiltshire. Her admiration for their work was evident as she unveiled a plaque to commemorate her visit.

"There aren't nearly enough hospices in the country." – The Queen

Queen Camilla's visit not only celebrated new beginnings at the Great Western Hospital but also highlighted her commitment to healthcare services across Wiltshire. Her personal remarks reflected both a connection to and appreciation for the dedicated individuals working tirelessly within these institutions.
