On June 14, 2025 during the Trooping the Colour ceremony Princess Charlotte of Wales enchanted parade goers in London, England. She loved flaunting her all-time record waist-length hair. This is an interesting annual event to celebrate the official birthday, not the actual birthday, of the British Monarch. Steeped in tradition it has morphed into an integral part of the British cultural fabric.
The origins of Trooping the Colour date back to the 17th century. It was a grand military ceremony, purposely made as an exhibition of regimental colours. This occasion evolved into an annual festivity for the sovereign’s official birthday. This tradition dates back to King George III’s time in the 18th century. Today, the pageantry-filled event features more than 1,400 soldiers and officers, along with 200 horses. This once-in-a-lifetime spectacle mesmerizes over 130,000 spectators.
More than 400 musicians from ten participating bands and Corps of Drums march and perform during the ceremony. Their amazing presentations really bring that celebratory spirit! Perhaps the most extraordinary feature of Trooping the Colour is the actual trooping of one regiment’s colours—or flag—before the monarch. Then the grand procession takes a scenic route through London, from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade. It runs down The Mall and then loops back.
King Charles III has taken a very active role in the Trooping the Colour on horseback in recent years, honoring a longstanding royal tradition. His real birthday is November 14. The official celebrations happen in June for more temperate weather. This year, the Trooping the Colour, as it is known, was celebrated on Saturday, June 14th, and kept with all of its wonderful traditions.
This year, all eyes were on Princess Charlotte and mom Catherine, Princess of Wales. Their forward-looking hairstyles made a powerful impression and helped set the tone. Princess Charlotte’s thick, long hair in particular drew accolades from royal watchers who noted her development into a lovely little thing with her looks and elegance.
