Princess Catharina-Amalia Set to Appear Publicly Following Recovery from Injury

Princess Catharina-Amalia, the 19-year-old eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, is preparing for her debut. This happens just eight days after she had surgery to repair her broken arm. The incident occurred during an equestrian accident, which required immediate medical attention. Only two days after the incident, she was released from the hospital, a testament to her strength and fighting spirit.

At just 20 years old, the Netherlands’ Princess Catharina-Amalia is a full-time student. She’s studying at University of Amsterdam. While maintaining her academic obligations, she is seen attending to royal duties such as state visits and other engagements. On Wednesday, June 18th, she will accompany her father, King Willem-Alexander, on an especially important occasion. He will hand over a new standard to the Princess Catharina-Amalia Hussar Regiment at the Prince Bernhard Barracks in Amersfoort.

The Hussar Regiment was created in 2020 with the merging of three regiments but has kept their separate traditions alive with their own specific regimental guidelines. During this unique meeting King Willem-Alexander will accept the standards (colours) of the Hussar Regiment Prince of Orange, Hussar Regiment Prince Alexander and the Hussar Regiment of Sytzama. Next up, he’ll be reviewing the troops.

In April, Princess Catharina-Amalia made headlines when she attended an Oman state banquet wearing a tiara and elegant earrings, showcasing her royal poise even amid personal challenges. She takes on a fierce and hands-on public role in Dutch military involvement. Her first trip in December 2022 to the Air Force, Army, and Navy branches. What’s being noticed is the fact that she hasn’t taken any military combat training at all.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander acknowledged his pride in his daughter’s bravery during her recovery process.

“I can say that I was very impressed by how brave she was with immense pain. And that she took it very calmly. We are very proud of her, how she got through the operation yesterday. How she is doing now I don’t know, I hope to see her again tonight.” – King Willem-Alexander

Looking ahead, Princess Catharina-Amalia will participate in the royal family’s traditional summer photoshoot alongside her sisters, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane, scheduled for June 30. This makes attending the event an opportunity to see the young royals and interact with them. It further assists their efforts to remain in the public eye as ambassadors of the Dutch monarchy.
