Prince William Shares Heartfelt Message at 2025 EE BAFTAs Amid Absence

The Prince of Wales delivered a special message at the 2025 EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) on Sunday evening, marking a significant moment in the ceremony's history. Though Prince William did not attend alongside his wife, Princess Kate, his presence was felt through a recorded message. The event took place at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall and celebrated the 20th anniversary of the prestigious EE Rising Star Award.

The Rising Star Award, an accolade voted for by the British public, is dedicated to celebrating young acting talent. Over the years, it has played a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of actors to follow their dreams. This year, Prince William acknowledged the award's impact, stating:

"Good evening everyone. As President of BAFTA, I’m delighted to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Rising Star Award, which is presented in honour of Mary Selway."
— Prince William

Although the Prince's absence was notable, his message underscored his longstanding commitment to BAFTA, an organization he has presided over since 2010. His previous absences include missing the 2021 ceremony due to his grandfather's sudden passing and the 2022 event owing to "diary constraints." In 2024, he attended solo while Princess Kate underwent cancer treatment.

The evening was hosted by actor David Tennant and featured a dazzling lineup of stars such as Demi Moore, Timothée Chalamet, and Saoirse Ronan. The ceremony also included a standout musical performance by Take That, who delivered their hit 'Greatest Day' from the BAFTA-nominated film "Anora."

In addition to celebrating rising stars, the ceremony honoured MediCinema with BAFTA's Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award. This British charity has made a significant impact by enhancing patient well-being in hospitals through cinematic experiences, showcasing the transformative power of film.
