Prince Harry just wrapped up an impressive four-day trip to the UK, during which time he delivered on both personal and philanthropic levels with dozens of charities and patronages. Throughout this visit, he shared his love for the United Kingdom, focusing on the impact of community and the importance of education. He paid a family visit recently to Kensington Palace. This visit led to a flurry of speculation regarding his ongoing connections to the country.
The trip provided Prince Harry the opportunity to reconnect with his roots. He imagined himself back at Eton College, and the difficulty he had crossing from one social stratum to the other. In stark contrast to his older brother Prince William, two years older than himself, Harry recalled a life-changing experience. William, his white roommate, counseled him to pretend they were strangers when he first moved to the elite academy.
“At the time, it hurt. I couldn’t make sense of it. I was like, ‘What do you mean? We’re now at the same school.’” – Prince Harry
Engagements and Community Focus
Prince Harry doing what he loved best, meeting people and supporting charitable endeavors on his recent trip to the UK. On stage at the WellChild Awards in London, he quizzed singer Joss Stone in an animated exchange. During their discussion, she wrote that he expressed admiration for the UK education system.
“He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children.” – Joss Stone
He cared deeply about the success of other people. This was particularly evident when he prompted Stone on how she was readjusting after having just recently returned from living abroad. Stone painted Prince Harry as warm and down-to-earth. This would create unsustainable uncertainty for her as to whether he should be allowed to permanently settle back in the UK.
“[Prince Harry] asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home. He’s just very warm and down to earth, as always. Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice.” – Joss Stone
Future Education Plans
As ever, Prince Harry comes across as a guy who genuinely loves the UK and its educational institutions. He and wife Meghan Markle probably won’t be sending their children to British schools anytime soon. He’s previously gushed about not wanting to send them to boarding school. He would be “extremely surprised” if he went this route for his own family.
Prince Harry recently revealed that he has been teaching his son some wonderful news. To this end, he has already registered Archie’s name for future admission at Eton College. Considering what they’ve grown accustomed to in California, it’s still very much an open question as to whether this plan will come into fruition. The royal couple seem to adopt an unconventional approach to parenting. They want to raise their children in a manner that’s different from how they were raised, defying conventional norms.
