Prince Harry recently opened up about heartfelt conversations with his son, Prince Archie, regarding the legacy of his late mother, Princess Diana. These discussions began when Prince Archie, at the tender age of five, showed curiosity about landmines, a topic closely associated with Princess Diana's humanitarian efforts. Prince Harry took this opportunity to introduce Archie to "Grandma Diana," sharing stories and images of her impactful work.
Princess Diana's commitment to clearing landmines is well-documented. She collaborated with The HALO Trust, an organization dedicated to removing explosive remnants of war. In a bold move to raise awareness, Princess Diana famously walked through an active minefield in Huambo, Angola. Her visit marked a significant moment in advocating for an international ban on landmines. Prince Harry followed in her footsteps, returning to the same minefield 22 years later to honor her legacy.
"Archie was asking about landmines, so I was talking about these guys… But then I found myself talking with him about mines at five years old, and interestingly it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didn't even really consider."
These discussions have allowed Prince Harry to reflect on his mother's humanitarian work and share her legacy with his children. He stated that he feels his mother's presence more than ever in recent years, particularly as he navigates fatherhood.
"It has been over the last two years more so than ever before."
In an interview with Today's Hoda Kotb in 2022, Prince Harry shared how Prince Archie expressed interest in seeing photos and videos of Princess Diana, especially of her engagement with landmines. This curiosity has paved the way for meaningful conversations between father and son about Princess Diana's life and work.
"I don't tell him [Archie] all the stuff that's happened, but certainly that this is Grandma Diana, and we've got a couple of photos up in the house."
Prince Harry also discusses Princess Diana with his younger daughter, Lilibet. By sharing stories and images of "Grandma Diana," he ensures that his mother's legacy lives on through the next generation. These candid conversations have not only strengthened the bond between Prince Harry and his children but have also provided him solace and connection to his mother's enduring impact.
