In case you missed it, Prince Harry raised eyebrows last week on his recent trip to Canada. He jokingly christened one flap over his wearing a Dodgers baseball cap, “Hat-Gate.” Angry debate exploded on social media outlets such as Reddit. This tongue-in-cheek commentary came after those debates, and a bit of heat taken in the Canadian media.
Harry now lives outside Los Angeles, the hometown of his wife, Meghan Markle. However, his ties to Canada remain strong. However, he is particularly well-connected with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers. On October 28, the man who helped create MLB’s current powerhouse franchise attended Game 4 of this year’s Fall Classic at Dodger Stadium.
Harry’s visit to Toronto, on Thursday, https://www.royalroad.com/, included a meeting with veterans close to the November 11, 1913 date. At an event honoring Canada’s military, he delivered a speech that acknowledged “the blue-hatted elephant in the room,” referring to his Dodgers cap from the recent baseball game.
He playfully donned a Blue Jays cap for the announcement. At the same time, he provided some important context for why he wore the Dodgers cap to the game.
“There wasn’t much choice. I was invited to the Dodgers dugout by the owner. I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.” – Prince Harry
Harry kept them rolling with a playful reference to his baldness, quipping,
“When you’re missing a lot of hair on top, and you’re sitting under floodlights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.” – Prince Harry
Although Harry is no longer a working royal, he has continued his long history of connection to Canada. His wife Meghan spent seven years living in Toronto while filming the hit legal drama “Suits.” Moreover, he established the Invictus Games, which Toronto welcomed in 2017.
In late 2020, Harry and Meghan lived on Vancouver Island in British Columbia for part of the year. After taking a royal sabbatical, they moved to Montecito, California. During a visit to Ottawa, Harry reflected on his long connection to Canada. He confessed that his fandom of the Blue Jays makes it difficult to come back to Los Angeles.
“Game 5, Game 6, Game 7, I was Blue Jays throughout. Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be pretty hard for me to return back to Los Angeles.” – Prince Harry
