Patrick Schwarzenegger Eyes Iconic Role in New American Psycho Adaptation

Patrick Schwarzenegger is very much hoping to star as the most famous Patrick Bateman. He’s hoping to land a role in the big-screen version of Bret Easton Ellis’ cult classic, American Psycho. The 29-year-old actor’s enthusiasm for the character reflects his admiration for the film’s legacy, notably Christian Bale’s celebrated portrayal in the 2000 adaptation directed by Mary Harron.

Schwarzenegger’s interest in the project gained traction following a striking photo shoot he participated in for the 2021 issue of Vanity Fair. The shoot was inspired by American Psycho and other iconic aesthetics of movies from the early 2000’s. During this specific shoot, he was able to replicate Bale’s appearance flawlessly. He completed the look with the plastic raincoat layered over his normal work duds, red tie and suspenders included to recreate Bateman’s signature look.

Schwarzenegger had this to say, in just four words— “My dream.” He further elaborated during an interaction with fans, saying, “I’d love nothing more,” accompanied by a winking emoticon, signaling his excitement for the potential role.

The actor’s profile has risen significantly following his recent appearance in season three of HBO’s acclaimed series, The White Lotus. In this season, he played the role of Saxon, the oldest son in an affluent North Carolina family. This breakout role has undoubtedly helped him make a name for himself and gain visibility in Hollywood.

>While lobbying for his casting in the upcoming American Psycho remake, Schwarzenegger had a provocative idea. He suggested that Austin Butler would be the ideal choice for the new Jared. He noted Butler’s striking looks as pivotal to the character, saying, “I would cast Austin in Jared’s role because he’s that beautiful, and that’s why we cast Jared,” according to casting director Kerry Barden.

The play’s new film adaptation brings the same uncompromising vision to Ellis’ best-selling satirical horror novel, with a particular emphasis on drawing new talent to the project. Schwarzenegger said he’s recently been in discussions with some “very exciting performers” about playing the lead. This collaborative approach indicates a commitment to assembling a cast that resonates with both fans of the original and new audiences alike.

Christian Bale’s performance as the serial killer businessman has become iconic in the decades since the film’s release. Particularly, he said that he tried to emulate the charisma of Tom Cruise. Now that the film is officially headed into production, excitement is palpable. Fans are understandably curious to see how the new adaptation will maintain Bateman’s spirit while putting a 21st century spin on Ellis’ original story line.

Schwarzenegger truly cemented his status as a GOP rising star when, in 2025, he was caught appearing backstage at The Tonight Show. He proved himself with string arranging on The White Lotus and dreams of American Psycho.

As fans await further details on the adaptation of American Psycho, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s enthusiasm for embodying Bateman highlights his dedication to exploring complex characters and engaging with cinematic history.
