Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were rejoicing after their 2-1 victory against Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal. That victory earned them a place in the final with a 3-1 aggregate score. The game played out on PSG’s home turf. The team showed their artistry by playing beautiful, incisive counter-attacking football that routinely sliced through their opponents.
Fabian Ruiz scored the first goal for PSG in the 34th minute. After a marvelous defensive scramble, the ball miraculously bounced right into his path. He took full advantage of the moment and hit an incredible half-volley that went under Arsenal’s keeper, David Raya. This early goal gave PSG the confidence to push forward as they looked to exploit Barcelona’s defensive line with their trademark quick counter-attacking style.
In the 72nd minute, Achraf Hakimi put PSG in the lead by scoring a phenomenal goal. His clinical close touch was majestic as it whipped into the net to make it 2-0. His goal solidified the team’s advantage and showcased their ability to capitalize on Arsenal’s vulnerabilities. No matter how hard they tried, Arsenal found it impossible to get past the well-drilled PSG backline.
PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was otherworldly, too, making several huge saves to ensure Arsenal left empty-handed. As Arsenal advanced on numerous occasions, Donnarumma’s poise and talent became essential in keeping PSG on top. Tactically, the team showed excellent versatility, maintaining a defensive structure that withstood Arsenal’s attacking tide.
Bukayo Saka scored a late goal in the 85th minute, but it was not enough for Arsenal to take anything away from the match. Even the late goal would not be enough to salvage a result. With PSG standing strong they confirmed their progress to the final. The win provides a much-needed tonic with PSG’s awful form. They were cruelly denied at this same stage last year by Borussia Dortmund, and in 2020, Bayern Munich knocked them out in the final.
With this 3-0 win, Paris Saint-Germain is through to the Champions League final. With this victory under their belts, they head into the next fight with a new sense of confidence and determination. They’ll next get ready to go up against Inter Milan in what should be a thrilling duel.
