Ozzy Osbourne Passes Away at 76 Leaving Behind a Legacy of Music and Memories

Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic lead singer of Black Sabbath, passed on at age 76, from natural causes with family at his side. His death signals the passing of an era for rock & roll’s golden age. In many ways, he was the central architect who defined that genre in an entire era. Osbourne is known around the world for his high flying vocal style and shocking stage theatrics. Fans here and abroad will never forget his deeply influential contributions to the arts and culture.

Osbourne’s life and career were recently explored in his memoir titled “Last Rites,” which was set to release in October. This book dives deep into his tumultuous experiences. It’s a fun exploration of his storied career with Black Sabbath, and his marriage to Sharon Osbourne. His memoir provides an intimate exploration of the peaks and valleys of his personal journey. It’s a fitting tribute to the spirit of a man who became the embodiment of rock and roll rebellion.

Osbourne’s career was defined by his ludicrous behavior. Perhaps the most notorious instance came in 1982, when–on stage still in stage makeup–he bit the head off of a bat, believing it to be a rubber bat. These dramatic moments were what made his reputation as the “Prince of Darkness,” thrilling audiences and ensuring his legacy.

In addition to these appearances, Osbourne joined fellow Brummies Black Sabbath for their Back to the Beginning farewell benefit concert in Birmingham, England in recent years. This was her first-ever solo concert, supported by phenomenal opening acts including Metallica and Lamb of God. It was his last live show with Black Sabbath. He brought all of them back for the great occasion – a superhuman 10 hours long – making history with that very act.

Ozzy Osbourne got a special send-off from his daughter moments after his last concert. This event became one of the family’s most treasured milestones. During this time, his daughter, Kelly Osbourne, got engaged to Slipknot musician Sid Wilson. His now-famous heartfelt proposal was the crowning moment for him, providing a glimpse of that beautiful relationship he had with his family.

Celebrating the work that led up to his induction, Osbourne told the mag he hopes to be remembered for his contributions to Black Sabbath.

“I’d like to be remembered for the work I did with Black Sabbath.” – Ozzy Osbourne [The Guardian]

Beyond all his accolades musical or otherwise, Osbourne was fond of saying his greatest accomplishment was making people happy.

“But to be honest, just being remembered would be an achievement to me.” – Ozzy Osbourne

In addition to his musical achievements, Osbourne often described himself as someone who brought joy to others.

“As a guy who gave people a lot of smiles.” – Ozzy Osbourne [The San Diego Tribune]
